With deep sadness we announce the passing of Albert James Madden, age 73. on February 6, 2025.
Born on January 10, 1952 to Albert L. and Margaret (Cero) Madden in Shamokin, PA. He was a 1969 graduate of our Lady of Lourdes High School where he was a varsity wrestler for four years. He graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1973 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. He was a member of the Huskies wrestling team.
Al taught reading, math, and physical education at West Catholic Elementary School for two years where he met the love of his life and future wife, Angela Scarantino. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage. Al earned his M. Ed. In counselor education from The Pennsylvania State University in 1976. He began a 38-year career as a school counselor, primarily in elementary schools, working in the Keystone Central, Pocono Mountain, Penn's Valley and Williamsport school districts. He also provided consulting services on stress management to schools, businesses, and organizations. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Lock Haven.
Al and Angela were blessed with four children: AJ of Bellefonte, Kelly (Stephen) Daily of
Blue Bell, Michael (Meghan) of Lock Haven, and Katherine (George) Bidwell of Mill Hall. The lights of his life were his grandchildren Michael Madden, Nora and Kira Daily, and Josephine and Lena Bidwell. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers James and Michael (Tamara) and sisters Kathleen (John) Lane and Barbara (Michael) Shamansky. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Charles Scarantino and Ross (Ann Marie) Scarantino. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Mary Scarantino and niece Tara Maynor.
Al loved sports of all kinds and coached wrestling at Our Lady of Lourdes and Lock Haven
High School. He also especially enjoyed coaching his four children's baseball, soccer, softball, and basketball teams. In recent years, he loved working with coach Biff Walizer and the Central Mountain wrestling team.
Al loved fly fishing with his friends. He was an avid Penn State wrestling and football fan, along with the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees.

The Parkinson's Foundation.
A viewing will be held at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Lock Haven, PA on February 16th from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the Holy Spirit Immaculate Conception Church in Lock Haven at 10:00am on February 17th, followed by a burial at St. Agnes cemetery.
