Donald Muthler Obituary
Donald Lee Muthler, 90, of 136 Monument Orviston Road, Beech Creek, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at his home.
He was born on July 5, 1928 in Wilmerding, Pa., a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Entler Muthler.
On Oct. 14, 1948, Don married Doris J. Hunter in Blanchard Church of Christ. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last October.
He was a 1946 graduate of Lock Haven High School.
Raised on a farm in Beech Creek, Don worked on the family farm, but was also employed by Pipeline Maintenance Labor Union and worked at Piper Aircraft until it closed 30 years ago. He also worked for General Refractory Brickyards, Harvison Walker and Crissman Brothers Meat Packing.
He was also a man of many trades, and in his spare time could be found painting barns, putting on roofs and doing other work for local residents.
Don was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ.
He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed coon hunting in his early years. He also was known for butchering hogs for local folks, and cutting and supplying firewood for dozens of families to keep them warm in the winter months. As a young man, he and Doris enjoyed weekly square dances and they often attended auctions, bringing home hidden treasures that decorated their home.
After his retirement, Don enjoyed meeting his buddies for morning coffee at the Beech Creek Community Center.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and one daughter, Donald E. (Lana) Muthler of Jersey Shore, Diane (Gary) Cox of Beech Creek, David (Holly) Muthler of Lock Haven, and Dennis (Carol) Muthler of Bellefonte; two brothers, James Muthler of Lock Haven and William (Frieda) Muthler of Williamsport; two sisters, Shirley (Ward) Barner of East End and Martha Dolan of Blanchard; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by a son, Dale J. Muthler, and a brother Raymond Muthler.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Blanchard Church of Christ, with Wally Kocher officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Blanchard Church of Christ Cemetery.
