John Young Obituary

John D. Young, Sr., 87, of Lock Haven, passed away January 17, 2020.He was born in Lock Haven on June 29, 1932, the son of the late John E. and Elizabeth Packer Young.John graduated from Immaculate Conception High School of Lock Haven in 1950. In August of that same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving until his Honorable Discharge in 1954. While serving in the military, John met the love of his life, the former Caryl Ambrose, with whom he was united in marriage on October 29, 1955.John was employed by Hammermill Paper Company for 33 years, serving in the maintenance department. Upon his retirement from Hammermill, he worked as a custodian at Woodward Twp. School District.John was an avid outdoorsman and had a special passion for deer hunting. He was also considered a "semi-professional" rattlesnake hunter. Through his love of snakes and reptiles, he contributed to the world-class specialized zoo and developed a fond friendship with Clyde Peeling of Clyde Peeling's Reptileland in Allenwood. He was also an avid collector of historical items such as local maps, knives, and arrowheads, as well as ceramics created by his father. He amassed a notable inventory of antique guns. A portion of his collection of locally manufactured Harder rifles will be on exhibit at Millers Gun Shop in Mill Hall, courtesy of the Clinton County Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, attending Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lock Haven.John is survived by his sister, Ann Yoxheimer of Castanea; two grandchildren, Tyler Young and Raiah Young and daughter-in-law Stacy R Weitsman Young of California.John was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Pletcher of Castanea, and joined in death by his wife Caryl Young of Lock Haven, and his son John D. Young Jr of California.A celebration of life for John Sr and Caryl is scheduled for Saturday February 7, 2026 at 2PM at the VFW in Lock Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Holy Spirt Catholic Parish, Clinton County Historical Society, or the Alzheimer's Association.Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G.
