Julie Yarnell Obituary

Julie E. Yarnell, 99, died peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at her home in Avis.

She was born Nov. 5, 1922, Julianna Olcszewski, daughter of Polish immigrants, Joseph and Wanda Szymczyk Olcszewski.

Julie spent much of her childhood in a little village, Seanor, in Summerson County, near Windber.

She attended Windber High School and came to Lock Haven by bus and train at age 17 to take a job with Sylvania Inc. of Mill Hall.

At Sylvania she became known as Judy by some of her co-workers. Although she preferred Julie, she became known as Judy by many.

That's when she met the love of her life, Raymond S. Yarnell Jr. The two married on May 6, 1944 in Lock Haven. Two days later he left with the U.S. Navy to fight in World War II, returning home two years later.

Her husband died Dec, 27, 1922.

The couple had five children: R. Craig (Amy) Yarnell of Flemington; Lana K. (Donald) Muthler of Avis; the late William M.Yarnell; Daniel T. (Bonnie) Yarnell of McElhattan and the late Jeffrey D. Yarnell, There are 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Julie was one of eight children and the last to pass away.

After the war, Julie and her husband were both employed by Clinton Paper Company. Julie retired with 25 years of service. After that she held several jobs at local grocery stores.

Although she spent most of her time raising five children, she enjoyed a little gambling at Bingo nights at local fire halls.

In her later years, it was scratch off Lottery tickets that caught her attention. She never spent much money on the tickets and never won much either, but found it fun to scratch off the numbers at the kitchen table when her son Craig and daughter Lana brought them.

Grandson Tommy also enjoyed scratching with his Gram.

She enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren, along with birthday parties and other special events including weddings.

Julie was the one to call if you needed a babysitter, too. She not only babysat for her grandchildren, but children of friends.

She was kind and loving to all, always will to lend a helping hand, no matter the situation.

Special thanks to the great ladies who served as care-givers over the last three years. They treated her with dignity and respect, and showed love and compassion always.

Although she will be missed, all can be sure that she is healthy, happy and loved, walking with her husband, sons and others among the angels in her heavenly home.
