Kenneth M. Sohmer

Kenneth M. Sohmer, 93, of Lock Haven passed away Monday, November 3, 2025 at UPMC Susquehanna, Williamsport.
Ken was born in Lock Haven on December 23, 1931.
He was a 1949 graduate of Lock Haven High School.
Ken was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served four years during the Korean War on USS Charles P. Cecil as a radarman. While serving, he played on the Navy's Atlantic Fleet basketball team.
After returning from war, he earned his bachelor's degree in education from Lock Haven State College. He later furthered his education, completing his master's degree at Penn State University and earning his Administrative Certificate from Bucknell University.
In 1956, Ken married the former Carole Stehman, with whom he shared nearly 69 years of marriage.
He began his career in education as a teacher at Bald Eagle Nittany High School, eventually becoming Assistant Principal. He later served as the Principal of Sugar Valley School until his retirement.
Ken was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Jersey Shore.
He was a member of many organizations including Elks, Moose, Lions, Sons of Italy and American Legion as well as a 50+ year member of the Masons.
Ken was a longtime member of Clinton Country Club where he enjoyed golfing with his best friend, Alvin Snowiss.
He enjoyed sports and played basketball and baseball on Lock Haven teams. He coached basketball at Immaculate Conception and BEN High School and golf at BEN. He was an avid fan of Penn State sports and the New York Yankees.
In addition to his wife, Carole Sohmer, he is survived by his daughter, Alison Sohmer of Lock Haven; brother, Randy (Kathy) Gillen of Lock Haven; sister, Ginger (Mike) Grieb of Mechanicsburg; cousin, Emily (Peter) Sohmer of Mill Hall and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Gillen and siblings, Raymond (Karen Novak) Gillen and Sybil (Charles) Weigle.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 11 AM at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 47 Rest Haven Dr., Lock Haven with Rev. Lauri Kerr officiating. Following the service, a lunch will be served at the Sons of Italy in Lock Haven.
Memorial contributions in Ken's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
