"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal." One of the kindest, most gentle spirits ever on earth, Steven Ira Lewis, was called home December 9, 2023. Steve was born February 22, 1953 to the late Clair Lewis, Jr. and Marie Englert Lewis. Steve had two brothers, Claire Lewis, III, who preceded him in death and Frank (Sue) Lewis of Jersey Shore. He was blessed with one sister, Vickie Bullock of Avis. Steve always looked up to his big brother, Claire. Anytime his daughters excelled in school, Steve would tell the girls they were just like their Uncle Sam. As adults, Frank and Steve could often be found together. Whether it was going out for drinks, fishing or just hanging out, they had an unbreakable bond. As youngsters, Vickie and Steve were best friends and partners in crime. He often looked forward to her macaroni salad which she would make just for him. During Steve's last days, they spent lots of time reminiscing. Steve's siblings were very important to him. In 1976, Steven met the love of his life, Debra Jean Fisher Lewis, who he lost in 2022. Steve's life was never the same. While he remained joyful, sadness was ever present. Together they proved everyone wrong. Together they showed everyone that even though things weren't always perfect, love would see them through. Debra and Steve had two daughters, Nichole (Don) Andrus of Aaronsburg and Marie (Eric) Weaver of Marsh Creek. Steve enjoyed visiting and spending time with his daughters. He was always trying to give to them and never showed up to their houses empty handed. He took care of them until the end. No one touched his heart like they did. His heart grew even bigger with his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Devin Andrus of Pittsburgh, Destiny (Dylan) Homan of Millheim, Garen (Carliegh) Weaver of Marsh Creek, Jordan Andrus of State College, Kylan Weaver of Marsh Creek, Jocelyn Weaver of Marsh Creek and Henry, Eden and Eliza Homan. Whether it was going grocery shopping, talking about hunting, watching them play sports or chasing the little ones to hear them laugh, Steve did it all. Steve worked for many years at Woolrich Woolen Mills. He also worked at Renninger's and Charles Construction. No matter where he worked, he made friends that became family. Steve loved Penn State football. Some of his favorite times were when he was able to work at the games. Whenever he could, he would take his daughters along, always treating them to breakfast at the College Diner. Steve loved spending time at Mother Carol's in Avis. He began working there nearly forty years ago part-time. As he went to work other jobs, he would frequently visit the friends he met there who became family. Five years ago, after retiring, Steve returned to work there. He worked there until a week before he left us. Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Lewis; his father, Claire Lewis, Jr.; his mother, Marie Lewis; and his brother Claire Lewis, III. Steven was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Beau and his sister-in-law, Sara Fisher who lived with him for more than forty years. He is survived by his loving daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as five nieces: Jenn Bullock, Christine (Rich) Taylor, Brittany Lewis Bardo (Sam), Amy (Jeff) Crossley and Katelynn Lewis; several great nephews; cousins; aunts; uncles; and a multitude of friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1 PM at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington with Rev. Timothy Boger officiating. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Steve's name may be made to UPMC Family Hospice, c/o Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
